Second Engineer
As Second Engineer on board, you shall be the ‘Executive Officer’ of the engine room reporting to the Chief Engineer and shall also be over all in charge of day to day operations and maintenance which will include but not be limited to the following
- Monitoring the duties and performance of subordinate engineer officers and ratings.
- Ensuring the overall maintenance of engine room and deck machinery.
- Executing planned maintenance routines as they become due.
- Recording details of Planned Maintenance System (PMS) activities carried out on board.
- Coordinating ballasting, de-ballasting operations, and ballast water exchange with the Chief Officer.
- Managing and maintaining records of engine stores and spare parts inventory for engine room and deck machinery.
- Acting as the Safety Officer to uphold a safe working environment on board at all times, supported by the Third Officer and Bosun as Safety Representatives (or any crew member elected during safety committee meetings).
- Overseeing the Shipboard Structured Training Program as the Shipboard Training Officer, monitoring trainees’ progress and reporting regularly to the Company Training Officer.
As the Environmental Officer on board, your duties also include:
- Implementing and monitoring the Garbage Management Plan.
- Coordinating with the Chief Officer to ensure compliance with the Vessel General Permit (VGP) through routine inspections under the Environmental Management Plan.
- Working with the Chief Officer to maintain the Bio-Fouling Record Book in line with the Bio-Fouling Management Plan and SEEMP.
- Overseeing sewage treatment plant effluent testing and maintaining records in compliance with TEC 33 regulations.

The Chief Engineer shall have full authority and responsibility for regulating, assigning and implementing planned maintenance of Machinery Spaces, Deck Machinery and Cargo Gear equipment to achieve best all-round operational efficiency. In this respect, the Chief Engineer may assign additional responsibilities to the Engineer Officers as deemed fit.
