Ordinary Seaman

As an Ordinary Seaman (OS) or SM2, your primary duties are to assist the deck crew in various maintenance, operational, and safety-related tasks under the supervision of the Chief Officer, Duty Officer, and Bosun. Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Deck & Accommodation Maintenance
  • Cargo Holds & Hatch cover Maintenance
  • Ballast & Fresh Water Tanks Maintenance
  • Mooring Operations
  • Maintenance of Cargo Gear (Cranes/Grabs/etc)
  • Garbage Management Control (under the guidance of Chief Officer)
  • Pollution Prevention duties (under the guidance of Chief Officer & 2nd Engineer
  • Maintenance of Safe Working Practices on board as a Safety Representative under the guidance of the Safety Officer (2nd Engineer) & Elected Safety Representatives.
  • Security related duties as designated by the Ship Security Officer

Familiarization Duties
Drills & Training
Assist the Safety Officer on board in routine inspections rounds once elected along with other safety representative. Ensure that Safe Working Practices are followed.

Familiarization on joining and of other Ratings
Assist in the execution of Drills/ Demos of use of various LSA/ FFA
Security Security Related Duties In Port At Anchorage At Sea
MARPOL Garbage Management Plan On Board Garbage Management under the supervision of the 2nd Engineer / Chief Officer / Third Officer
SMS Procedures Quality & Safety Management Recommended careful reading of the relevant Shipboard Procedures

The Master & Chief Officer shall have full authority and responsibility for regulating and assigning duties for implementing planned maintenance of hull and equipment to achieve best all-round operational efficiency. In this respect, the Master may assign additional responsibilities to the Bosun & Ratings as deemed fit.
