General Steward
As a General Steward, you will report to the Master and Chief Cook, and your shipboard duties will include, but are not limited to:
Cleaning Responsibilities
- Maintaining the cleanliness of accommodations, including alleyways and stairways on officers’ decks.
- Cleaning the officer’s smoke room, mess room, pantry, common toilets for officers, pilot cabin, hospital, and officers’ laundry room.
- Cleaning officers’ cabins on alternate days.
- Upkeeping the reefer chambers, provision, saloon, bond, and linen store rooms.
Assisting the Chief Cook
- Supporting in the pre-preparation of food.
- Performing routine pantry work.
- Cleaning and maintaining the galley, including utensils, crockery, cutlery, and equipment.
- Assisting with inventories for provisions.
Additional Responsibilities
- Receiving and storing provisions, bond items, and saloon stores.
- Checking inventories and monitoring consumption of saloon stores and provisions.
- Serving officers in the mess room, pantry, ship’s office, and wheelhouse.
- Attending to pilots and other port officials as needed.
- Handling the laundry of all linen on board, adhering to the scheduled frequency.
- Conducting fumigation of accommodations at intervals not exceeding one month to maintain an infestation-free environment.
Environmental & Safety Duties
- Assisting with garbage management under the guidance of the Chief Officer and Second Engineer.
- Supporting pollution prevention measures as directed by the Chief Officer and Second Engineer.
- Carrying out safety and security duties as assigned by the Chief Officer.
