Engine Cadet & Electrical Cadet

1. Objectives

The objective of this procedure is to define the responsibility of the Engine Cadet & Electrical

Cadet whilst on board the vessel.

2. Responsibilities

The Second Engineer and ETO/EE shall ensure compliance with this Procedure. The Engine

Cadet reports to the Second Engineer. The Electrical Cadet reports to the ETO/EE.

3. Instructions

3.1 General

The Engine Cadet reports to the Second Engineer. The Electrical Cadet reports to the ETO/

EE. It shall be the Responsibility of the Engine Cadet to amongst others:

» To perform engine watches at sea and during cargo operation under the guidance of a

certified engineer and to carry out duties as instructed.

It shall be the Responsibility of the Electrical Cadet to amongst others:

» To carry out our maintenance and troubleshooting of machines under the guidance of a

certified Electro Technical Officer or Electrical Engineer and to carry out duties as instructed.

3.2 Special Tasks

The Engine Cadet & Electrical Cadet shall additionally ensure the following:

» To familiarize himself with the appropriate regulations and work procedures.

» Carrying out a laid down training program, including the upkeep of his training record book.

» Complete the Monthly Performance Report as required.

» Assisting watch-keepers/UMS duty engineers as required.

» Assisting in maintenance of the plant, as instructed.

» The maintenance of his accommodation in a clean and tidy condition.

» To execute assigned tasks safely, under the supervision of an officer orating and to report

hazardous conditions without delay to the Duty Officer or the Chief Engineer.

» To familiarize himself with all safety equipment and safety procedures onboard.

» Take part in the promotion of safety culture on board.

» Any other duties assigned to him by the Chief Engineer, Second Engineer or other

Engineers as instructed by the Chief Engineer.

The Engine Cadet & Electrical Cadet is to take every opportunity to understudy the other officers

and seafarers on board to increase his knowledge and understanding of the ship. However, the

Cadet is not to be given any job for which he is not qualified and is not to be given the

responsibility of supervising other seafarers.arers.
